Banelec are proud to announce that we have joined the Supply Chain Transition programme for the future of light vehicle manufacturing. The fully-funded programme delivered by C&W Business Solutions, The West Midlands Growth Company and the Finditin Network will give Banelec the opportunity to liaise with buyers and specialists in this ever-expanding industry.
Banelec Business Development Manager, Steve Smith attended a meeting with a Supply Chain Specialist from C&W Business Solutions in October to discuss the programme and how Banelec can make the most of the opportunities available through their involvement. “I think this is a great opportunity for Banelec to be involved with the future of light vehicle manufacturing. Our decades of experience manufacturing equipment for the rail and automotive industries put us in a great position to develop new equipment and machines to produce LEVs and be involved in the design of VLR infrastructure.”
What are light vehicles?
Light vehicles, such as Very Light Rail (VLR) and Light Electric Vehicles (LEV), are becoming increasingly popular due to their efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. These vehicles offer a clean and green alternative to traditional modes of transportation, making them ideal for urban environments and densely populated areas.
VLR is a type of rail-based transportation that is designed to provide flexible and efficient services for passengers. VLR vehicles are typically smaller than traditional trains, with a capacity of around 50 passengers. These vehicles are lightweight and can easily navigate through narrow streets and tight corners, making them ideal for urban environments.
Light Electric Vehicles, are individual or small-scale electric vehicles that are designed for personal or short-distance transportation. LEVs come in various forms, including electric bicycles, scooters, and skateboards. These vehicles are highly efficient and environmentally friendly, emitting zero emissions and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Why did Banelec join the programme?
The Supply Chain Transition Programme for the future of light vehicle manufacturing has been set up to provide help for SMEs in the West Midlands, like Banelec, to diversify their customer base by winning new orders in growing areas of economy. By becoming part of this programme, Banelec are able to attend workshops, 1-2-1 support from specialists in the area, have site visits and be invited to meet the buyer events.
